The Economist is a sophisticated news magazine coming out of the UK. Its coverage is deep and insightful, and you should be able to handle the material if you read carefully and thoughtfully. You may face "pay to read" blocks from home, but probably not at school.
The Christian Science Monitor is a terrific American news publication that focuses on international news. Don't be put off by the title; it restricts its polemics to on column on the back page.
